The Aerospace STEM Institute is a virtual summer program held on June 25, 2024, with limited in-person attendance on June 26, 2024. The virtual event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time), with limited in-person attendance on June 26, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Aerospace Corporation headquarters in El Segundo, California. By participating in the Institute, students will have an opportunity to ask experts questions directly, complete activities as they relate to space, and be able to observe professionals working in diverse groups to assure mission success.

The online program will cover topics regarding science and engineering. The select in-person attendees will have the opportunity to tour facilities at the Aerospace campus and complete a Q&A session with experts.

Criteria

To attend the online program, students must:

  1. Be enrolled in high school for the 2023–2024 school year (no middle school).
  2. Reside in the United States while participating in the program.
  3. Have access to an electronic device (computer) and stable internet.
  4. Have their own email address.

To attend the in-person program, students must additionally:

  1. Have transportation to and from The Aerospace Corporation.
  2. Provide identification (school or state ID).

Students interested in attending the virtual program must complete a two-part application: (1) general information and (2) participant consent form.

Students interested in attending the in-person program must complete a three-part application: (1) general information, (2) personal statement, and (3) participant consent form. Optional: recommendation letter by a teacher, counselor, or administrator from the school of attendance.

Although the event is open to all qualifying students nationwide, priority will be given to students who attend a Title I school. A selection committee of volunteers will read and select the most qualified applicants for in-person attendance as space is limited.

Timeline

  • Applications are due no later than Friday, May 24, 2024.
  • A selection committee of volunteers will read and select the most qualified applicants for the Aerospace STEM Institute.
  • Students will be notified by email and must accept or decline their participation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Students must use their own email accounts to communicate with event organizers.
  • Students may not share the event link or meeting details with those not accepted to the program and who have not complied with the security requirements.

Application

The application may be submitted by the applicant (over the age of 13).
